SMS's Library Media Center (LMC):
The Salem Middle School Librarians include Ms. Olson, Ms. Gilbert & Ms. Hudgins. The LMC is available for student use from 8:40 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During the school day students may visit the LMC with teachers, a teacher signed planner, and S.A.L.E.M. time. When a student visits with a planner, we ask them to sign in. Students also sign in before school.
Destiny is our computerized card catalog. It has information about the books located in the Library Media Center, links for online research sites, and teacher resource links. Students may access Destiny from any computer at Salem Middle School and can also be accessed from home.
Book Checkout:
Students are allowed to have five books checked out as long as none are overdue. To check out library materials, a student should have their ID Card. The check out period is two weeks per item except for special check outs such as encyclopedias. Books may be returned to the LMC or book drops located around the school.
Books Online:
E-books are available through Destiny or the Clever portal. See the library staff if you need help or directions.
Accelerated Reader Information:
We participate in the Accelerated Reader Program. The Accelerated Reader Program (AR) is offered to the entire student body. Prizes are awarded monthly, October through May. Students are encouraged to participate in this reading program.
Library Computer Use:
There are 15 computers are located in the LMC for student use. Since these need to be used for Destiny and school projects, no games are allowed. The computers are for school use only. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and support.
Tuesday afternoon late hours in the LMC:
Tuesday afternoons students are allowed to stay until 5:40 in the LMC with a pre-approved signed permission slip. Permission slips can be obtained in the LMC or from their SALEM teacher. Permission slips must be turned in to the LMC by 2:00 in order for students to participate on that Tuesday. Students are allowed to ride the activity bus home from this activity.
